Cake of the month - Dec 2015



It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for Dec is for little girl, Isha's 3rd Birthday. Mum, Kiran had earlier ordered a "Frozen" cake for Isha to celebrate her birthday at school with her classmates and wanted another cake for celebration at home. She fell in love with our Star Burst birthday cake from our website Cakes Gallery but wanted to change the colours to her daughter's favourite purple and pink. It was also a last minute order but we manage to squeeze it into our kitchen order schedule.

This 2 tier cake has a bottom tier of 6 inch and top tier of 4.5 inch. Our popular moist chocolate flavour was the obvious choice. The bottom tier was covered in white fondant with pink and purple stripes and the top tier is in red fondant with similar colour polka dots. Of course the celebration star burst added the magnificent touch to the top of the cake. Happy 3rd Birthday Isha!

Plate to Pixel: Food Styling & Photography Class - 13 Nov 2015


WOW!! All our participants for the Plate to Pixel Food Styling & Photography Class were indeed a talented bunch. Everyone registered as an amateur but they turned out to have such great talent. The photos were so good (...and delicious)!! Our Food Stylist and Photographer instructor, Audrey Lim, was really smitten by the burst of artistry and creativity shown by everyone. Congratulations to all for achieving what you came to learn. Bravo!

Cake of the month - Nov 2015


It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for Nov is for 60 year old Uncle Neil. Alicia ordered the cake on behalf of her aunt for her uncle's 60th birthday bash. Uncle Neil loved football and why not order a Football Fever Cake!

The 2 tier Football cake has a 10 inch bottom tier and an 8 inch football topped with a mini yellow jersey. No.60 for Uncle Neil of course! Happy 60th Birthday and Many Happy Returns!

Video Madness - Special Minnie Mouse Fondant Cakes




Our cakes section is onto "video madness". They could not resist taking videos of these 2 fondant cakes they just did for 2 of our customers. One is Little Ellie's 2 tier Minnie Mouse cake and the other is a whopping 4 tier Minnie Mouse Cake for Charlene. Don't the cakes look FAB!!

Volkswagen's Merdeka Customer Appreciation Event - 12, 13 & 19 Sept 2015







At 19 Culinary Studio is proud to have hosted Volkswagen's Merdeka Customer Appreciation Event held on 12, 13 and 19 Sept 2015. Volkswagen invited 100 of their customers to a cooking class learning how to cook 2 dishes - a typical German potato salad (Kartoffelsalat) and a popular Malaysian grilled chicken (Ayam Percik). These 2 recipes were chosen as they marry together very well as a cohesive and delicious meal.

Classes were kept small, no more than 20 participants at any one time as we wanted to maintain the personal touch with a small chef to student ratio. The cooking classes were conducted over 3 weekends in 5 sessions. The turnout was great and all Volkswagen customers worked in teams and had a lot of fun learning how to cook German and Malaysian at the same time. Everyone cooked up a storm and was rewarded after, with a sit down dining of what they have cooked.

Cake of the month - Aug 2015


It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for Aug is for little girl, Kiara's 1st Birthday. Mum, Shue Vin could not decide on which of the two cake designs she sent us. So, we said, why not combine the two designs! That's exactly what we did, took designs from both cake photos Shue Vin sent us and came up with one beautiful Minnie Mouse cake.

The 4 tier Minnie Mouse cake has a bottom tier of 10 inch, middle of 8 inch and top tier of 6 inch. Our popular moist chocolate was the obvious choice. The cake was covered in pink and white fondant surrounded with a frill skirting icing on the base of all tiers. Minnie Mouse icons, polka dots, black ears and a big pink ribbon added the finishing touch to a majestic cake. Happy 1st Birthday Kiara!

Cake of the month - July 2015




It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for July is to celebrate Little Olivia's 1st Birthday. This time, it was Dad, Vincent, who called us and he knew exactly what cake to get for his little girl's birthday. Vincent sent us a photo of the design he wanted and hey presto...a Rocking Horse cake was born.

The pretty Rocking Horse cake is an 8 inch moist chocolate cake covered in pastel pink fondant surrounded with macaron rounds of white and 2 shades of pink. The Rocking Horse was made completely of fondant painstakingly put together piece by piece. When Dad Vincent came to collect the cake, he was fascinated with the pink beauty....Very Nice!. Happy 1st Birthday Olivia!

Food Styling & Photography Class: Plate to Pixel - 14 Aug 2015





 



We were very excited to have a full class for our 2nd Food Styling and Food Photography class, aptly named "Plate to Pixel" conducted by our two wonderful photographers. It was a beautiful and cheerful morning, though not blessed with the best sunlight, the class started with much cheer.

Our two photographers, Audrey and Michelle, were on hand to facilitate the class. Audrey started with a briefing to the participants on the 12 important pointers for food styling and photography. We can't help but noticed that this time round we had a handful of corporate participants paid for by their companies. These participants were from Marcom and A&P departments of 5 star hotels who were here to improve their photography skills.

It was a very practical and hands-on class with everyone practising how to style food to make it look delicious, using ingredients like peas and eggs. Out came i-pads, smart phones, SLR cameras to capture the food moments. Participants were taught how to shoot photos of the food in their best angle and lighting. Aids like reflectors and props and how to use them to take fabulous photos were explained. It was indeed a fun and fulfilling day.

Cake of the month - June 2015



It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for June is to celebrate Little Charlotte's 1st Birthday. Mum, Connie, knew exactly what her little girl's favourite was and talked to us on a Little Pony cake. She sent us a photo of the design she wanted and hey presto...a cake was born. Mum also wanted to add cupcakes and we suggested our "Just Cake It" series, which is to print the Little Pony designs on frosting sheet to put on top of the cupcakes. Hey presto again...the cupcakes were created.

The Little Pony cake had a 8 inch bottom, a 6 inch top tier in pastel blue fondant complete with soft clouds and a rainbow. Mum Connie bought a Little Pony non-edible toy to complete the whole cake. When Connie came to collect the cake, she was fascinated with the beauty and the colours. Happy 1st Birthday Charlotte!

We won 2nd place at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2015



At 19 Culinary Studio's cookbook, Lost Recipes of Malaysia, won 2nd place at the Best of the Best Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2015 held on 9 June in Yantai, China.

At 19 Culinary Studio representing Malaysia was competing with countries like Canada, China, France, Mexico, Peru and USA in the Historical Recipes category. To get 2nd placing is indeed a great honour especially it was our first attempt at publishing a cookbook. 1st place went to Mexico and 3rd place to France.

Cake of the month - May 2015


It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for May is to celebrate Little Zi Yao's 1st Birthday. Mum, Jess Chong, changed the design many times but finally settled with a Baby Mickey cake which will match her blue and white party theme. We made a delicious 3-tier moist chocolate cake with alternating tiers of blue and white decorated with Mickey icon lollipops.

As soon as Jess received the cake which was delivered to her house on the day of the party, she sent us a text to let us know that it was a beautiful cake. We loved the design too. The cake had a 6 inch bottom, a 5 inch middle tier with a 3.5 inch top tier. Jess wanted a blue no.1 candle and it was hard to find. We went to almost every ingredients shop in town. They either did not have blue or don't have the No.1. Well, we finally managed to crack the code! Happy Birthday Baby Zi Yao!

World Foods Product Awareness Event - 8 May 2015





At 19 Culinary Studio hosted a product awareness event "Talking About Eating Well" for World Foods to promote their marinades and sauces that are currently available in Malaysia. World Foods' marinades, paste, dips and sauces are allergens free, trans fat free, gluten free, no artificial flavour, colour or preservatives and suitable for vegans too.

The "Talking About Eating Well" event was aimed at creating public awareness on the importance of eating well and the use of quality sauces to help busy mothers today create delicious healthy meals that are quick and easy to prepare for the whole family. 

Ms Goo Chui Hoong, qualified dietitian and chef instructor at At 19 Culinary Studio, started the event with a presentation on "What is Eating Well?" followed by a cooking class demonstrating 3 quick and easy recipes using World Foods sauces. The results were Yum! Everyone enjoyed the Green Curry Vegetarian Pizza, Tom Yam Fish Paste Omelette Roll and Satay Pie Tee. Everyone was healthily full and happy.

Cake of the month - Mar 2015


It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for Mar is to celebrate Little Ryan's 1st Birthday. Mum, Tracy had previously tired our Mickey Mouse cake and she said everyone loved it. This time she wanted a different design and picked our Bear-Bear cake.

We added another tier to the existing cake on our website and made a 2-tier Bear-Bear cake. Tracy wanted a simple elegant cake with no complicated colours and design. So, the Bear-Bear cake suited her requirements.

The Great British Bake Off Season 2 Workshops - 17 & 18 Jan 2015






At 19 Culinary Studio was the proud sponsor for the Great British Bake Off Season 2 Contest Workshops in Jan 2015. The contest ran for the whole month of Dec 2014 in Astro channel 780 and Capital FM radio. Some of you would have seen or heard the contest over TV and radio. Winners from Astro Circle and Capital FM attended a Baking Workshop each sponsored by....ahem - us!

All the participants had fun baking 3 recipes from the Great British Bake Off Season 2 - Raspberry Cream Cupcakes, Chocolate Biscotti and Chicken & Mushroom Pies - all different category of bakes to challenge their baking skills.

Cake of the month - Feb 2015


It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for Feb is to celebrate Little Ander's 1st Birthday and his Baby cousin brother Ayden's 60 days. We made a delicious 3-tier moist chocolate Mickey Mouse cake with a big Mickey hat complete with a big pair of yellow Mickey shoes.

Sook May sent in a request for a Mickey cake with a sample picture and asked if we could replicate the cake. Yes, of course we can. We loved the design too. It was a bubbly fattish Mickey and we recommended an 8 inch bottom, a 6 inch middle tier with a 5 inch top. Both Sook May and her sister loved the cake. They were so excited when they came to collect the cake for their party. It was so so cute!

Gourmand Best in the World Cookbook Awards



We did it! At 19 Culinary Studio's cookbook, Lost Recipes of Malaysia, is the winner representing Malaysia to compete in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2014 to be held in Yantai, China.

We are indeed very happy and excited that our cookbook has been nominated for the "Gourmand Best in the World" Cookbook Awards for Best Historical Recipes Book category.

Huay Pin's Bridal Shower - 27 Dec 2014





When Tjin Ng approached us to host her sister Huay Pin's Bridal Shower, we were excited. We crossed a few e-mails and recommended a few class options that we could do for her. She finally decided on a Fondant Cupcakes Baking and Decorating - Bridal theme class. It was always nice to see old friends get together again and new ones meeting each other for the first time in a Bridal Shower.

After all the introductions and group photo (that's a must especially before class starts!), the class began with the girls baking cupcakes (some for the first time...never baked before....no worries, you are in good hands). Cupcakes in the oven and it was time to decorate. The girls has so much fun shaping fondant into various shapes and designs that represented the bridal theme. They were so creative. Most of all, everyone bonded and had such fun baking together. Well, congratulations to Huay Pin and may this fun and happiness be the start of your Happily Ever After!!
