Coming Soon.....Lost Recipes of Malaysia Cookbook

At 19 Culinary Studio is launching this much awaited Malaysian cookbook soon on 9 May 2014. This cookbook aptly named "Lost Recipes of Malaysia" is a private collection of vintage recipes from four of the culinary instructors (Chef Shokri, Chef Khai, Baker Anand, Dietitian Chui Hoong) and the owner (Hellen Fong) of At 19 Culinary Studio. This cookbook is published under the Masterclass Kitchen Series by MPH Publishing.

Mouse over the book cover and click on the "arrow" icons to see the individual video and hear what each of the chefs has to say about their favourite recipe from the cookbook. Great stuff!

About this Cookbook.....
The recipes in this cookbook are the private collection of vintage recipes from my chefs and I over our lifetime, passed down from our aunties, mothers and grandmothers. Our work in this cookbook brought back fond memories of dishes our mothers and grandmothers used to make. It is indeed difficult to try to preserve traditions and old recipes are gradually forgotten. Not many people know how to prepare and cook these dishes in its traditional way anymore. It took us a while to track down these recipes, ensuring to the best of our abilities that they are indeed authentic and encapsulate them into a book to keep them safe from being lost and forgotten - a treasure to leave a lasting impression on Malaysian cuisine. The completion of this book is our dream and our passion. It is our hope that this treasury of vintage recipes will continue to warm up the kitchens and fill dining tables of homes today and those of generations to come. Bon Appétit!

Cake of the month - Mar 2014

It’s time again for us to feature our “Cake of the month” to showcase what we consider our best custom made order cake. The Cake of the month for Mar is a 2-tier Golf Cake. This was a special cake for a 70th birthday dinner.

When Chui Hoong e-mailed us to do a custom designer cake for her father-in-law’s birthday, we were excited to accept the challenge. Hmm! Golf being grandpa’s favourite sport, a Golf Cake would be most appropriate. We made grandpa standing handsomely on top of the cake with his golf bag ready to strike the ball at his favourite golf club! Wow, we turned that idea into reality and made a 2-tier fondant cake.

Chui Hoong trusted that we will do a good job and let us have a free hand to design the cake for her. When we WhatsApp her a sneak preview snapshot of the cake, she was elated and replied “Wow! So Nice, Good Job. Thank you very much”.

Well, we can’t be happier than to know we have made someone happy. Have a special event coming up? Need a special cake? Take a peek at our Cake Creations Gallery: http://at19culinary.com/gallery_html. For enquiries on our custom order designer cakes, please send us an e-mail at contact@at19culinary.com.

Lite Malaysian Favourites Cookbook

One of our culinary instructor and dietitian Ms Goo Chui Hoong has launched her 2nd cookbook entitled "Lite Malaysian Favourites". Ms Goo is one of the highest qualified dietitians in Malaysia.

The cookbook highlights simple guidelines on healthy eating and discusses what's wrong with Malaysian food. Learn about portion control and tips on healthy ways of food preparation. You will learn how to prepare healthy versions of Hainanese Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak, Ikan Bakar, Otak-Otak, Beef Rendang and more.

Recipes are simple and easy to read. Instructions are easy to follow. There are 30 recipes in 4 categories - Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fruits & Vegetables and Snacks & Desserts, all healthy alternatives to Malaysian favourite recipes commonly found at hawker stalls or restaurants. Estimates of nutrient contents of each item in the recipes are compared to their less healthy counterparts.

The cookbook also shows you what are the healthy alternatives you can use in food preparation eg. low fat milk versus coconut milk or artificial sweetener versus sugar or condensed milk, how can healthy ingredients be incorporated into everyday Malaysian meals.

This cookbook is available for sale at RM39.90 in major bookstores or you can purchase from our website eStore at http://www.at19culinary.com/category-57028.html.
